One of the knocks on home schooling is that it lacks that certain air of credibility that public and private schools boast, simply because home schoolers don't stick to the rigid academic programs typical of traditional schools.
Since children/students are taught by their parents instead of authorized teachers, and their curriculum is flexible as opposed to being set in stone, people tend to look down on them, taking their non-conformity as a sign of incompetency.

While there's nothing wrong with chasing after it, home-schoolers should always remember that the main benefit of home schooling lies not in how credible it makes them, but how capable it allows them to be in the real world.
